DINI LOBUE KICKS OFF
LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT 8 CAMPAIGN
Thirty-eight
year resident, Dini Lo Bue, is kicking off her first-run
effort at elective office: Republican Candidate for
District 8 Legislator.
Describing herself as a
"New Voice for
Putnam County," Dini is a
Mahopac Schools graduate, St. John the Evangelist
parishioner and Mercy College Business
Administration/Marketing major, who is prepared to use her
energy, enterprise and experience to benefit District 8 and
Putnam County residents.
As a
four-year member of the Town of Carmel Architectural Review
Board (ARB), Dini has used her expertise as a visual designer in bringing a "new
look" to projects along the Rte. 6 commercial corridor. To
attract new 21st century businesses, core commercial areas
must be attractive. "Good design makes good business
sense." Have you noticed Dunkin Donuts, Four Brothers
Restaurant, Hannaford's and Wendy's? Dini's stamp is on
them.
Fiscally conservative Lo Bue points out that the
combination of spending cuts and finding new sources of
revenue aside from retail to expand the tax base, is key to
breaking the cycle of ever-spiraling tax increases. It is
imperative that a proactive, aggressive marketing campaign
tapping into cutting-edge businesses be initiated in the
face of the loss of Watson Pharmaceutical and possibly
Guideposts in Carmel.
Further, Putnam
County's exploding population over the last 20 years brings new challenges. Lo Bue points out that this "honor" of being the 2nd fastest
growing of the 62 New York State Counties, has come at a
heavy price for the hard-working, tax-strapped residents of
District 8 and the County in ballooning school and social
services budgets.
With
over 14% of the county's population baby boomers and another
25% of the population under the age of 18, strains on town
and county budgets to meet the needs and demands for
services, fire, police and emergency, are already apparent
with Carmel Town officials in 2007, for the first time in
memory raising taxes by 8% and county officials by 20%.
This
tax pile-on added to the excessively high school tax bill,
has prompted the proactive Lo Bue to support the proposed
Cahill Bill in the State Legislature. The bill transfers
school costs from property to income taxes while leaving key
educational decisions in the hands of local parents and
school officials.
Lo Bue
recognizes that hard times require hard decisions and
leadership. "We must put aside the old, failed, recycled
policies of the past and initiate a new vision." However,
Dini points out that she cannot do it alone. Partnerships
are essential between the county and the town officials and
open communication between residents and their elected
officials.
Dini
pledges to the residents of District 8 and Putnam
County that her relationship with her constituents and her fellow colleagues in
the legislature will be open and transparent. She will
never prevent anyone from speaking; she will listen to all
the people not just some who agree with her. Ultimately,
"we are accountable to all the people". Dini looks forward
to a vigorous campaign to prove that she is worthy to become
the representative of the people of District 8.
